“PIP GIVES EXACTLY THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SPACE AND CHALLENGE TO GIVE YOU REAL CLARITY.”

Hi, I’m pip reader.

I set up Brilliant Business in 2009 to coach and support owners of small and medium sized companies. Since then I have worked with over 60 businesses in total and several of my earliest clients still work with me now.

Although the early part of my career was spent working in a corporate environment, my focus now is small and medium size businesses. Whilst smaller businesses have their own challenges, the ability to take a quick decision, make things happen and see immediate results, is something I thoroughly enjoy. It also allows me to harness the wide range of skills and experience I have gained through my career in helping businesses to transition from more informal ways of working in the early stages to develop the process and structure needed for sustainable growth.

In particular I am passionate about business being enjoyable. Part of that is about ensuring a business is ‘well run’; having a clear direction, for everyone working there to understand what is expected of them and for there to be processes and systems which work. There also needs to be attention given to developing a supportive culture and making it a positive place to work, so that people have the energy and desire to do a great job for their customers.

In terms of my background, after completing a degree in Maths and Computer Science I joined BP as a graduate. I was trained in business process re-engineering, and developed my skills in project management, organisational change and process design. I really loved it, and the skills of planning and organising work, making teams work effectively and successfully implementing change, still provide a strong foundation for much of the work I do today. It also inspired me to take a Masters in Human Resource Management, specialising in Organisational Change.

As my career progressed, I moved into more senior roles, initially in HR, where I built a new team to support a rapidly growing Retail business. The challenge of recruiting and training large numbers of staff at speed was incredibly exciting and I learned the value of good people management in retaining and developing staff, as well as gaining lifelong skills in tackling people issues before they became problems. From there I moved into more commercial leadership roles, including Marketing Manager for a fast-growing network of retail sites in Poland and into a business to business environment, with senior roles in sales and operations management building on my strengths in managing client and third party relationships at senior level as well as accountability for delivering business financial performance.

The catalyst for a change of direction was the birth of my son, Sam, whose arrival prompted me to step off the corporate ladder and train formally as a business coach. Combining coaching and consulting skills with my breadth of experience across business management and implementing change has proved to be very successful and I feel fortunate to have found a role which allows me to bring so much of what I have learned together.

Outside of work, I love travel and watching live sport, often managing to combine both. At home I enjoy yoga, walking and spending time with my family.

My Approach

I work with business owners and management teams to create clarity, focus and action.  Getting clear on your goals and using a combination of coaching and consulting skills, we map out what needs to happen at each stage and follow through to ensure we achieve the desired results. The process is designed to build the confidence and energy needed to take your business to the next level.
